Miami Dade College’s Forward-Looking Programs Prep Students For Knowledge Economy

Did you know a cyberattack occurs every 39 seconds?

As the world’s reliance on computer technology continues growing, so do the number of cyberattacks. However, companies are encountering a big problem: They cannot find enough qualified IT security professionals to combat those threats. There are more than 200,000 unfilled cybersecurity jobs in the United States. Forbes magazine reports there will be 1.5 million global cybersecurity job vacancies by 2019.

Continuing to position Miami at the forefront of high-technology development, Miami Dade College is partnering with Cyberbit, the world’s leading provider of hyper-realistic cyber range platforms, to open MDC’s new Cybersecurity Center in fall 2018. The center will feature South Florida’s first cyber range – a virtual environment used for cyberwarfare training and cybertechnology development – to provide trainees with realistic, hands-on instruction in a simulation platform.

MDC’s Cybersecurity Center is but one of many MDC programs to be featured at eMerge Americas 2018, the premier technology event connecting the Americas. The College’s trailblazing technology, entrepreneurial programs and talented students are once again taking center stage at this popular show.

In its quest to foster innovation and meet workforce training needs, MDC is committed to preparing students for careers of the future today. That mission will be on exhibit at MDC’s eMerge 2018 interactive stand, where visitors can explore the College’s latest offerings in cybersecurity, digital forensics, mechatronics, business intelligence, virtual and augmented reality (AR/VR), the Internet of Things, and more!

The cutting-edge space will invite visitors to discover their passions, explore careers of the future and create a personalized icon portrait.

Stop by to see what’s on the horizon at MDC’s Miami Animation & Gaming International Complex (MAGIC) and learn more about its new AR/VR college credit certificate. There is a rising demand for college graduates with virtual reality knowledge, according to Goldman Sachs, which predicts AR/VR will be the next major computing platform. In addition to video games, AR/VR technology has applications for several industries, including health care, retail, education, advertising, tourism and law enforcement.

MDC’s interactive area will also include the latest innovative programs from the The Idea Center, Makers Lab, Miami Fashion Institute, School of Entertainment and Design Technology, Eig-Watson School of Aviation, School of Global Business, School of Architecture and Interior Design, School of Justice, School of Science, Trade and Transportation and the Virtual College.

Take a deep dive into Miami industry and technology trends at eMerge’s Launch Pad and Texpert stages, where Idea Center Executive Director Romi Bhatia and students will showcase the center’s many entrepreneurship programs and demonstrate student “Internet of Things” inventions powered by Raspberry Pi single-board computers.

Are you ready to glimpse the future now? Get a close-up look at how MDC is preparing its forward-thinking students – and the community – for the new global knowledge economy at eMerge Americas 2018.
